Ever join a PTR only to discover a few months later that you will never get paid? Lately, there has been a lot of dissapointing changes and dissapearances of PTR programs we all once excitedly joined. Chances are, you have gotten burned as well. You aren't alone and by communicating with your fellow PTR members, you can gain and share useful information. Read this page and pass it on! If you have a comment to share or a question, please feel free to e-mail me.
Regardless of what anyone might say, the majority of PTR program members are people who need that income boost that is expected from being a member of the above mentioned PTR's.
There are some myths that should be cleared up. I've been an active member of many PTR's since about a 2 years ago. Some I've quit, some I am still with, some I'd joined recently and am very happy with. What did I base my judgement on? Read on and you will get some very useful tips.
You will also get chances to see the PTR boycot list and other helpful resources.

MYTH #1: lower payouts are easier to reach.

TRUTH: No, programs with lower payouts will take about as much of your time and effort as the ones with high payouts, but they will make you REALLY work for that $5 or whatever the amount. As an experiment, I joined three low-payout programs on the same day as I joined two high-payout ones. I had no referrals and did not have funds to upgrade. I've discovered that in 1.5 years, in both the programs with the high payout and the ones with the lower payouts, I've reached about half the payout amount. One of the low-payout programs I had to quit alltogether, because they kept raising the payout amount, so after a year of clicking restlessly, I only had $2 and some cents and the payout was $25. Imagine how many years it'd take me to reach that! About 12 and a half years!! Hopefully, by the end of 2005, after 2.5 years, I will finally get the $5 and $10 from the sites with low payouts that were supposedly "easy to reach".

MYTH #2: 5 cents per click is a fraud, no one will pay that.

TRUTH: Actually, some experienced webmasters such as Quantum Rewards send out 5 cent solos only to a limited number of members, so instead of several thousands of people clicking on it, it expires only after 500 clicks or so. Making it valid and not fraudulent at all. Those that clicked first, will get the 5 cents. Those that clicked after the limited number, will get a "Sorry, the link has expired" screen. However, there is a number of PTRs out there who don't even cover their advertising cost and so there won't be any money left to pay you.
Calculate your sites' potential
here. Because earning is NOT the same thing as being paid!

MYTH #3: if the program is threatening to change to an ad-only site, you should demand your partial payout.

TRUTH: The warning signs of a sinking ship: the WM resigns on a basis of the program beig "too much" and handing the site over to someone else (which isn't always bad, but in some of cases is), after which you get less and less e-mails, which later become only searches, and then eventually the new WM subtracts the old debt from your and everyone else's acounts, announces that this is now an ad-only site, or simply dissapears together with the website. This has happened to me twice. I joined programs that looked promicing, but being unable to fullfill their promices, they simply stopped sending out e-mails, and when their poor, unsuspecting members tried to log into their acounts to at least click on some PTCs, they've discovered that the site is no longer there.
You should detect the program's impending doom by abserving how your balance measures up against the payout after a sufficient amount of time. If after 10 months of active clicking you only have 24 cents and the payout is $75, be warned. Redeem for advertising and leave. If you have nothing to advertise, refer to the next myth. In any case, you will not get your partial payout, so simply forget it.

MYTH #4: you shouldn't join ads-only sites if you don't own a business or sell things.

TRUTH: A lot of PTRs sadden their members by turning to ads-only. That isn't wonderful news if you don't have anything to advertise, but you could advertise a charity of choice! Breast cancer awareness site,
homeless puppies shelter
, rescued horse sanctuaries, child abuse funds, rescued abandoned rabbit farms, homeless children's fund, The hunger site, an abused cat shelter, a heart desease fund, a local charity that really touched you. They almost always have websites. So why not advertise them, get people to help, or at least to be aware? Another option is to advertise a personal website, a friend's webpage, your daughter's wedding page, your cat's contest voting page, etc... Some ads-only sites, such as Tiger's Ads, pay very high amounts per click and make it very easy to readeem over and over again. I've redeemed 3 times since I joined 9 months ago! Yes, for ads, but seeing how they're high amount lniks, they will at least be definitely seen!

MYTH #5: you are obligated to search and search (and search) in order to keep your PTR up and running.

TRUTH: Supporting your PTRs is always a good idea, so sure, click on some searches and make sure you make a valid search, vote for them once in a while, and if you need to search for something, make sure to use their search. However, if a program gives you an option of not getting search e-mails, you select not to get them, and then they bombard you with searches anyway, saying you MUST search or the site will be in huge debt, then simply quit. Those $5 or even $10 aren't worth the stress and all the late-night staying up. Think, are those ten dollars worth you waking up exhausted, being groggy at school/work, wasting hours clicking stuff you've absolutely no interest in? Probably not. Redeem for advertising or donate your earnings to the site and leave. There's lots of fish in the sea! AwesomeEmails4u are just as the title suggests, awesome. Their TOS state that it is their responsibility to find ads, from members of the site or outside it, and for each month that your payment is delayed, you earn an additional 1% of your payout amount. Which means they will not send you 4 emails a day whining that it's all your fault that the program's failing, and you must sell ads and endlessly search.

MYTH #6: you can't earn much without referrals.

TRUTH: Referrals are a bit over-rated, they don't amount to THAT much, unless you have 20+ of them. Example: in one of the programs I'm a member of, I have 6 direct referrals and 6 second-degree referrals. In about 3-4 months, all together they amounted to about $4, while in the same amount of time, I directly earned $26. I mean, of course, the extra money's nice, but come on, only a dollar a month from like 12 people? You can see where the referrals aren't lethally significant. However, some sites, such as  MailBling.com pay a
DOLLAR PER REFERRAL
. So really use your friends! But be careful and really read the TOS of any PTR you join. This one program, 100to1000mails or something like that, states in their TOS that if you have below 100 DIRECT referrals, you will be only paid 1% of your payout and the other 99% will be considered a donation to their site. And the only way to get 100% of your payout is to have 1000+ direct referrals. Are they insane? Most people never even make it to a 100 direct referrals. Besides, even if you're a super-hero and will somehow get over a 1000 people to sign up as your active direct referrals, you only get your payout in 10 monthly instalments. I have not heard of anyone getting paid by them, so I reckon no one had the 1000 direct referrals period.

MYTH #7: if the site is a scam, you have to hang in there anyways, because they might just become nice and pay you, or because you're reluctant to let them have your money.

TRUTH: Wake up and quit now. The longer you hang around, the more of your money they will end up getting. They will cheat you out of it anyway, not ever send your payment out, not respond to your e-mails about it or say that you're in the process of getting paid and you won't hear from them ever again and you won't get a penny either. They might just dissapear off the web or change owners and "lose" the list of people who need to get paid. Or they might accidentally delete you or say you're not in the database. And don't try posting any negative comments anywhere, your acount will be suspended permanently and you might even be threatened by the WM. Any of the above or a combination of thereof. Trust me, I've heard hundreds of stories like that and witnessed my own acounts debit the payment amount but never received a penny.

1. Check out the PTR BOYCOTT list and see if you're a member of any of those. If you are, redeem for advertising and leave now. The list on the left is a list of boycotted PTRs and the list in the middle is a list of
any
dead "earn money on the internet" programs, such as paid surveys, surf-rewards, get-paid-to-promote programs, etc... So check that out also, you might be in one of those as well. Off-hand, I know (from personal experience) that Surf-Junky is a scam program. Join if you like, but you've been warned.

2. Also, (and this is the most helpful to you step) you might want to check out the reviews of the PTRs
you're a member of. Read the PTRs being reviewed just like movies. Not all PTR's are reviewed at the moment, though, so also go ahead and check out
The Scam PTRs List, they have a list of PTRs that cannot possibly afford to pay their members, a list of PTRs that knowingly don't pay their members, as well as a list of PTRs that do pay (on a separate page). If you see one of your sites as a "SCAM", quit now. Do not waste any of your precious time on it, you'll be clicking 'til the keyboard sets on fire and won't get a penny. One of my
ex
-sites was there, so don't feel that bad. :) The greatest compilation of scam sites ever is at the Alien Master's site. Very extensive and alphabetically organized.

3. Research any sites you're thinking of joining on the GPTR forum. See what people say about your potential programs. If you see 50-some people scream "scam" - that's a clue! ;) Ask around, post a couple o messages, they will usually be answered in a few days. If you wish to find all posts about a certain program quickly, simply type the name of that program in the "search" box of the site. That will pull up all the discussion threads about it as well as individual posts.

4. E-mail the World Wide Clickers Association with your complaints of sites that have not paid you after you've reached your balance, requested payout, and waited for a sufficient amount of time.

5. Make sure the sites that have scammed you make it into the Scam lists provided above, the boycott list and all the scam lists you know of. That will ensure that other people will see that the site is a scam and the scammers will lose their members (or potential members).
